“My enthusiasm for writing never stops” – Tom Richards I’ve been writing fiction from when I was only 15 years old. My High School English and Drama teacher made our classes keep a Journal. In it we could write about anything we wanted. Often, I’d write what was on my mind that day – the snow that fell outside in Arlington Heights, Illinois; the Shakespeare plays my classmates and I acted in or what my parents did for a living. I’d then turn those ‘fragments’ of truth into a small fiction short story. I continued to write fiction for the rest of my life, using ‘true stories’ from the news and from personal experience. I’d take some of that rich information and I learned to write, as I often do, novels filled with Magical Realism. To all those who wish to write novels all I can suggest is for you to take notes about your story, then sit in front of your laptop or old fashioned typewriter and write at least 1 hour every day. Everyone has a novel in them. Writing a good one is hard but not impossible. Persistence is the key when writing anything. If you write something you don’t like, save it but start over again from the very top just like I do. I wish all you who want to become a writer of any kind a whole lot of luck!”
